Community Neighborhood Traffic Calming Improvements

RECOMMENDATION

Approve the recommendations in the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Study

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the November 19, 2020 Traffic Committee meeting, staff presented the attached draft Neighborhood Traffic Calming Study that consisted of the study background, efforts by the Working Group, summarizes results of the community survey, describes traffic improvement recommendations, outlines cost for each proposed improvement and lays out a recommended implementation strategy based on a phased approach. (See Exhibit A) City staff and City Traffic Engineer presented a PowerPoint presentation at the meeting that summarize the report findings and recommendations. (See Exhibit B)

After the public comments were received and Traffic Committee deliberations, the Traffic Committee recommended to the City Council to approve recommendations #1, #5 through #13 and resurvey the south of State College Neighborhood on recommendations #2, #2A, #3 and #4.

Per the Traffic Committee’s recommendation, staff sent out a second survey to the residents south of State College which includes a series of questions designed to provide the Traffic Committee with a better understanding of community desires. On January 4, 2021, staff received 17 responses. (See Exhibit C)

City staff and City Traffic Engineer will present the survey responses at the meeting to summarize the findings and recommendations.

Staff expects to present the final Neighborhood Traffic Calming Study to the City Council at an upcoming meeting, which will include the Traffic Committee’s recommendations.
