Commission/Committee Member Recruitment Timeline and Designation of Two (2) Council Members to Serve on the Interview Panel

RECOMMENDATION

Approve the recruitment timeline and designate two (2) Council Members to serve on the Interview Panel for the Arts in Public Places Committee; Cultural Arts Commission; Parks, Recreation and Human Services Commission; Planning Commission; Investment Advisory Committee; and Traffic Committee.

Approve new term dates for two (2) Art in Public Places members and three (3) Traffic Committee members.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

The Chapter 2.16 of the Brea City Code outlines the process for Commission and Committee Member application process.

Staff proposes the following recruitment timeline:

All applications are due to the City Clerk's Office no later than Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.
Council will designate two (2) City Council Members to serve as the Interview Committee.
Applicants will interview with the Interview Committee no later than the week of January 9, 2023.
Council will make appointments at the January 17, 2023 City Council meeting. Council and will also recognize outgoing commission/committee members at this meeting. If approved, applications will be available to the public on the City's website: http://www.ci.brea.ca.us by the end of the day on December 16, 2022. The earliest a Notice of Vacancy can be published in the newspaper is Thursday, December 22, 2022 due to publishing deadlines.

In January 2019 Council aligned the committee appointments to coincide with even number of years application period by changing the public members whose term expired during an odd year to end in an even year.
