Resolution No. 2022-065 Approving Compensation for Planning Commissioners

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that City Council adopts Resolution No. 2022-065 approving compensation for Planning Commissioners.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

On November 16, 2021, the City Council had an initial discussion regarding whether to compensate City commissioners. At that meeting, the City Council agreed that Planning Commissioners should be compensated, pending their review of the financial outlook of the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget.

At the August 16, 2022 City Council Meeting, the City Council approved to compensate Planning Commissioners, so long as certain requirements are met. Planning Commissioners are eligible to receive compensation, so long as they have completed the League of California Cities' Planning Commissioners Academy, or a comparable Planning Director-approved training program, within the past two years. Once these requirements are met, Planning Commissioners are to be compensated $50 per meeting they attend (either in person or via teleconference), with a maximum amount of $100 per month.

It is therefore recommended that City Council adopts Resolution No. 2022-XXXX, approving compensation for Planning Commissioners.

FISCAL IMPACT/SUMMARY

Planning Commissioners are eligible to be compensated at most $100 each per calendar month. This results in a maximum potential cost of $6,000 per year. These funds have been programmed in the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget in the Planning Division. There is no further fiscal impact.
