Brea Golf Courses Fees and Capital Improvement Project

RECOMMENDATION

Staff is seeking the support of the Commission in approving the new rates for both Birch Hills Golf Course and Brea Creek Golf Course in addition to moving forward with the capital improvement project to enhance the driving range at Birch Hills Golf Course.

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

We continue to see great use of both Birch Hills and Brea Creek golf courses. Western Golf is doing a wonderful job overseeing both sites.

Every year we look at the rates based on recommendations by the operator to stay competitive in our fees. Staff has compiled all of the current fees pertaining to various age groups, days and times of the week and is attached along with the proposed new fee amounts.

In addition, staff is working with the operator on a capital improvement project to enhance the Birch Hills Golf Course driving range with new dividers, mats, ball machine, trash cans, etc. The cost of the project will be approximately $50,000 and there have been a total of $325,000 put into the capital improvement project (CIP) account for the golf courses. Monies are placed in the CIP account based on the agreed upon contract for 3% of total gross income. Both the operator and staff feel that this is a good use of some of these monies which should yield a return in revenues.
